In "Lose Your Marbles," players are tasked with shifting marbles of various colors to create matches on the game board, while new marbles continuously descend at regular intervals. Whether facing off against another player or the computer-controlled opponent, the objective in "Lose Your Marbles" is to inundate the adversary's board with marbles. Forming combinations of three, four, or five marbles results in the removal of those marbles from the player's board. Furthermore, a five-marble match sends marbles cascading onto the opposing player's board.


Thanks to its user-friendly controls, "Lose Your Marbles" can be enjoyed by two players on a single keyboard. Additionally, the game offers a LAN multiplayer mode, enabling two players to connect and compete over a local network.

The initial release of the game featured a tagline proclaiming, "Better than Tetris or your money back!" SegaSoft even offered a complete refund to dissatisfied customers who did not find the game superior to Tetris.

"Lose Your Marbles" received positive reviews from critics. GamePro praised it as "one of the most captivating PC games in recent memory," assigning it impressive scores of 4.5 out of 5 for graphics, sound, and control, along with a perfect 5 for its entertainment value. Nicole Freeman of GameSpot noted that the AI opponents were relatively easy to beat, which made the single-player mode somewhat lacking in longevity. However, she acknowledged that the multiplayer mode provided much more enjoyment and endurance, concluding that "It's not on par with Baku Baku, but 'Lose Your Marbles' is far from a total disappointment." Next Generation agreed that the single-player mode offered a decent challenge but concurred that the multiplayer mode was where the game truly shined. They stated, "Lose Your Marbles is genuinely enjoyable, even if it doesn't quite capture players' attention like Tetris or possess the same enduring appeal."

The game earned recognition as a runner-up for Computer Gaming World's 1997 "Puzzle Game of the Year" award, although the ultimate winner was "Smart Games Challenge 2." The magazine's staff referred to "Lose Your Marbles" as "the best Tetris clone we've seen since last year's champion, Baku Baku." Additionally, the game secured the "Best Arcade Game" award at the CNET Gamecenter Awards for 1997.
